Hospital Among Top Five Percent Nationally for Patient Safety

Rockford Memorial Hospital has been named in an independent national research study as a recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient SafetyTM, according to HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings company.

This distinction reflects Rockford Memorial’s performance among the top five percent of hospitals nationally for patient safety outcomes, according to HealthGrades. Rockford Memorial is the only recipient of this HealthGrades award in the Rockford area, and one of only 12 in the state of Illinois. Nationwide, only 242 hospitals out of nearly 5,000 received this recognition.

    • Only Hospital in Rockford with 5-Star Rating for Treatment of Heart Failure
    • Ranked Best in Rockford for Spinal Surgery
    • Ranked Among the Top 10 in Illinois for Spinal Surgery
    • Five-Star Rated for Spinal Surgery
    • Five-Star Rated for Treatment of Community Acquired Pneumonia
    • Five-Star Rated for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
    • Ranked Among the Top 10 Hospitals in Illinois for Vascular Surgery
    • Ranked Best in Rockford for Overall GI Services
    • Five-Star Rated for Treatment of Bowel Obstruction (November 2007)

Van Matre HealthSouth earned honors for being ranked second in clinical quality out of 93 HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.  This is the third quarter in a row VMHS has ranked in the top 5. (August 2007)

HealthGrades has named Rockford Memorial as a recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety.  Only 242 of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals and 12 in the state of Illinois, made the list this year. (April 2007)

Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital earned honors as one of the top HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals.  Van Matre ranked second in clinical quality out of more than 90 HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals nationwide for the fourth quarter for 2006. (March 2007)

Rockford Health System again was named a “Family Friendly Workplace” by the United Way. (March 2007)

The most recent ranking by the American College of Cardiology puts Rockford Memorial in the top 3 percent nationwide (23 out of 536 hospitals) for providing prompt treatment to heart attack victims. (January 2007)

Rockford Health System earned a three-year accreditation from the Illinois State Medical Society for its Continuing Medical Education program. (November 2006)

The Commission on Cancer awarded a three-year accreditation with commendation to Rockford Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Program. (November 2006)

HealthGrades announced that Rockford Memorial Hospital was rated best in the Rockford area for treating

    • Overall orthopedics and spinal surgery
    • Overall pulmonary services
    • Critical care
    • Gastroenterology (November 2006)

Children’s Medical Center was named a Pediatric Critical Care Center by the Illinois Department of Public Health and Emergency Medical Services for Children program. (September 2006)

Rockford Health System was honored with the United Way’s 2005 Family Friendly Workplace Award. (March 2006)

Rockford Memorial Hospital received the HealthGrades 2006 Pulmonary Care Excellence award and is the only hospital in Rockford area to receive the award two years in the row, 2005 and 2006. (February 2006)
