A dramatic transformation of a 1970s-era hospital floor into a state-of-the-art unit was recently unveiled.
The new unit was renovated to promote comfort, healing and personalized attention to the needs of the patients. All 17 rooms are private and equipped with special amentities including:
- Beautiful wallpaper, wood accents, artwork, and fabrics in soothing shades of blue and green.
- Space for family and visitors in patient rooms as well as in a comfortable and quiet family waiting room with a special water feature.
- A custom-designed wood headboard which conceals medical equipment.
- Flat-screen TVs with DVD players provide patient entertainment and education in every room.
- Fold-down computers in each patient room which allow nurses to complete documentation and conduct patient safety verification.
- Remodeled bathrooms that include higher toilet seats, no threshold to trip over at the entrance to the bathroom, and a built-in seat in the shower.
A multi-disciplinary planning committee worked with design professionals from Hagney Architects LLC, and Richard L. Johnson Associates, Inc. to design the unit. The Rockford Memorial Development Foundation contributed a total of $300,000 towards the overall $1.5 million renovation, with proceeds from fundraising events and other unrestricted gifts.
