Fundraising Focus for the Year
In 2007, the Rockford Memorial Development Foundation is focusing on raising funds for the renovation of the D-2 Orthopedic Surgery Unit at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The renovation project will create 21 private rooms with private bathrooms to meet the particular needs of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery or neurosurgery. The unit, as it was first built in the 1970s, currently houses 31 beds in a variety of double and single rooms.
The renovated unit will integrate technology to maximize caregiver effectiveness, patient safety and communications. Design elements will create a beautiful yet functional environment to encourage rest, comfort, healing and family involvement – like a nice hotel, as opposed to the somewhat impersonal ambience typical of a 1970s hospital floor. Special features of the new orthopedic surgical unit will include a physical therapy and patient education room, disbursed nursing stations, and a family education room.
Construction of the renovated Orthopedic Surgery Unit will be completed in 2008.
Rockford Health System’s busy inpatient and outpatient orthopedic program works with the region’s finest orthopedic, spine, trauma and neurosurgeons to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic, surgical and reconstructive techniques. Physicians choose Rockford Health System for our exceptional Operating Room capabilities, including dedicated orthopedic OR nursing staff and trauma team, excellent anesthesiologists, and state-of-the-art equipment and technology. For those patients requiring hospital care, the phenomenal team of nurses and therapists on the D-2 orthopedics unit consistently receive rave reviews from their patients. And between our Van Matre HealthSouth rehabilitation hospital and the excellent services available through Visiting Nurses Association, Rockford Health System offers the complete continuum of care for our orthopedic patients to take them from diagnosis and treatment through rehabilitation and recovery.
Donors are invited to sponsor patient rooms and other named gift opportunities for the D2 renovation. For more information, please contact the Foundation at 815-971-4141 or by e-mail: foundation@rhsnet.org.
